Walnut Creek BART Station reopened after person removed from tracks

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — BART service is recovering from an earlier problem after service was stopped between Pleasant Hill and Lafayette due to a person on the tracks, the transit agency tweeted. Walnut Creek BART Station was temporarily closed but has now reopened, BART said.

According to BART spokesman Jim Allison, someone was on the tracks for an unknown reason when a train approached the station, and a collision may have occurred. Emergency responders were able to remove the person from the tracks, Allison said. An update on the person’s condition was not immediately available.

A possible collision between the person and a BART train was reported at 10:48 a.m. The reason the person was on the tracks has yet to be determined, BART officials said.

People were earlier being advised to seek alternate means of transportation between Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Lafayette stations. Normal train service has now resumed, and a bus bridge set up between impacted stations has been canceled.
