Walmart is having trouble delivering all those NES Classic Editions

For the last week, Walmart has been the only place worth trying to get a NES Classic online. The retailer has been drip-feeding us stock drop by drop, with a flash sale of a couple units every day at 5PM EST.

But according to emails sent in by readers, Walmart is struggling to fulfill even those occasional orders.

DON’T MISS: You don’t have to be a T-Mobile customer to get its best Black Friday deal

One reader sent us the following email he received from Walmart after placing an order:

“Thank you for your recent Walmart.com order of the Nintendo Entertainment System: Classic Edition. Due to the extreme volume of customers placing orders for this product at the same time, we unfortunately received more orders than we can currently fulfill with our existing inventory.
We expect to receive additional NES systems within the next two weeks and should deliver your order in advance of the holidays; however, if you would prefer to not wait and cancel your order, you can do that by accessing your My Account page. Your order will remain in processing status until we receive the item and ship it to you, or until you cancel it.
Walmart takes great pride in ensuring the satisfaction of our customers and I know we fell short with this issue. Please accept my sincere apologies for disappointing you during the holiday season.”

We can deduce two things from this: firstly, that anyone who ordered a NES Classic from Walmart recently will be lucky to get it by Christmas. Secondly, you can expect the bulk of those flash sales to stop. If Walmart is seriously backed up in stock for the Classic, it wouldn’t make sense for them to keep selling consoles that they don’t have.

Walmart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
