Walmart is closing this Sacramento-area store due to poor performance. When’s the last day?

Walmart is closing a Sacramento-area store this spring due to its inability to meet the company’s “financial expectations.”

Walmart Neighborhood Market will close at 4080 Douglas Blvd. in Granite Bay on April 12, according to a Tuesday morning news release.

“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process,” Alicia Anger, communications director for Walmart, wrote in an email to The Sacramento Bee on Tuesday.

“We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately some do not meet our financial expectations,” she said. “While our underlying business is strong, this store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.”

Designed to be smaller than Walmart supercenters and discount stores, Walmart neighborhood markets provide customers with groceries, a pharmacy and other merchandise, according to the company’s website.

Walmart store is closing Granite Bay

Walmart serves customers at 309 Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations in California, employing more than 100,900 people, according to Anger.

Walmart’s Granite Bay location is one of 12 stores across the Sacramento area owned by the massive retail chain.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our store in Granite Bay,” Anger said.

Anger said the Granite Bay Walmart store employed a total of 81 associates.

They’ll have the option of transferring to another store, and will be paid through June 14, she said.

If they choose not to transfer, employees will receive severance, according to the release.

No other planned Walmart closures are expected for the region, Anger said.

What about the pharmacy?

If you’re a pharmacy customer at the Granite Bay Walmart you’ll need to find a new location.

“Our pharmacy staff will work with customers to transfer prescriptions to another convenient Walmart location,” Anger said.

When is Granite Bay store open?

Walmart Neighborhood Market in Granite Bay is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, according to its website.
