It looks like The Walking Dead TV universe is going to be with us for the foreseeable future, as AMC has revealed plans to keep it going for at least the next 10+ years.

Yep, despite the main show's dwindling ratings and drop in quality, it seems AMC is still banking on the universe to continue for a while longer yet.

"The Walking Dead is a universe... and we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus. That plan is a careful plan to respect the world of the fans of that world," AMC CEO Josh Sapan said at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Well, spin-off Fear the Walking Dead is arguably better now, and Sapan pointed to that show as an extension of the franchise.

The next season of the main show, meanwhile, will see Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes exit the show, though how exactly he'll go remains a mystery.

However, the episode titles for season nine have just been released, and they may hint at what point in the season Rick will leave.

Showrunner Angela Kang has also hinted that Rick's exit will have "an incredible emotional impact".

"This is new territory for us; obviously there have been characters that we've said goodbye to over the years, but he's the person who brought us into the show," she explained.

"Obviously there's a lot of expectations and we really hope that we don't let people down; we hope that people come along for the ride, but I do think it's an incredibly emotional journey and I think the performances and the work that people have done are pretty amazing.

The Walking Dead returns on October 7 on AMC in the US, and the following day (October 8) on FOX and NOW TV in the UK.
