‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Premiere Date Unveiled – Comic-Con

The Walking Dead returned to Comic-Con today and wasted no time giving Hall H something to chew on. With a trailer teasing the crowd, AMC’s zombie apocalypse series announced it will return for its 16-episode seventh season at 9 PM ET on October 23. The season will debut internationally on October 24 on FOX channels in more than 125 markets.

“It’s absolutely worth the wait,” executive producer Robert Kirkman said of the revealing Season 7 opener directed by fellow EP Greg Nicotero. Added EP Gale Anne Hurd: “There might be some interesting non-human characters as well.”

Said star Andrew Lincoln: “We all link arms, it’s a really sh*tty start to the season, but hang on because we are heading to one of the greatest showdowns of the show.”

Of course the Season 7 premiere of the ratings blockbuster will reveal which character met his or her demise at the end of villain Negan’s bat, as the end of Season 6 set up. Speculation is high, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan ratcheted the suspense when he was introduced to the Hall H crowd, coming out with baseball bat in hand in full character, asking the panel and crowd, “Are you pissing your pants?”

He was joined onstage by TWD stars Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, Josh McDermitt, Ross Marquand, and Christian Serratos. Hurd was also there with Kirkman, Nicotero and fellow EPs Scott M. Gimple and Dave Alpert.

Though she showed up via video briefly, Melissa McBride was not there, but EP Gale Anne Hurd previously told Deadline people shouldn’t read much into that. “There’s a limitation at Comic-Con as to how many people can be onstage,” she said. “So, we would love to have brought everyone, but we couldn’t.” McBride’s Carol character was not one of those on bended knee in front of Negan and his gang in the April 3 Season 6 finale.

As in past cycles, Season 7 of TWD will be broken up, with the show returning for the final eight episodes of the run in February. No specific date for TWD S7B was given Friday at the fanfest. What was given was a big taste of glitter as a prank Lincoln tried to pull on Reedus went very wrong and left the former covered in the glitter intended for the latter – which the fans loved. A Rocky routine with the boxer in the world of TWD from Marquand and Cudlitz drew big laughs too

Leading up to the premiere episode helmed by Greg Nicotero, AMC will air a behind-the-scenes The Walking Dead Season 7 Preview Special on August 14 and a two-hour retrospective with the working title of The Walking Dead Recap Special on October 16.
