What is the team news?

Englandwill enter a hostile Principality Stadium with a rookie back row after naming Jack Clifford in place of Tom Wood.

Clifford has recovered from a chest injury to make his first international appearance since last summer's tour to Australia and is chosen ahead of the vastly more experienced Wood, who is demoted to the bench.

In the only other change to the starting XV that dispatched France 19-16 last Saturday, Jack Nowell is picked on the right wing in a move that sees Jonny May also relegated to a spot among the replacements.

England XV: M Brown (Harlequins); J Nowell (Exeter), J Joseph (Bath), O Farrell (Saracens), E Daly (Wasps); G Ford (Bath), B Youngs (Leicester); J Marler (Harlequins), D Hartley (Northampton, capt), D Cole (Leicester), J Launchbury (Wasps), C Lawes (Northampton), M Itoje (Saracens), J Clifford (Harlequins), N Hughes (Wasps).

Replacements: J George (Saracens), M Mullan (Wasps), K Sinckler (Harlequins), T Wood (Northampton), J Haskell (Wasps), D Care (Harlequins), B Te'o (Worcester), J May (Gloucester).

Englands Six Nations record in Wales

Waleshave made two changes to their starting line-up. Both switches are in the front-row, where props Rob Evans and Tomas Francis take over from Nicky Smith and Samson Lee, respectively.

Fly-half Dan Biggar and wing George North, who both suffered injuries during last Sunday's 33-7 victory against Italy, make the starting XV, while Bath No 8 Taulupe Faletau is among the replacements for potentially his first run-out since suffering a knee injury on Christmas Eve.

Wales XV: L Halfpenny (Toulon); G North (Northampton), J Davies (Scarlets), S Williams (Scarlets), L Williams (Scarlets); D Biggar (Ospreys), R Webb (Ospreys); R Evans (Scarlets), K Owens (Scarlets), T Francis (Exeter), J Ball (Scarlets), A W Jones (Ospreys, capt), S Warburton (Cardiff Blues), J Tipuric (Ospreys), R Moriarty (Gloucester).

Replacements: S Baldwin (Ospreys), N Smith (Ospreys), S Lee (Scarlets), C Hill (Newport Gwent Dragons), T Faletau (Bath), G Davies (Scarlets), S Davies (Ospreys), J Roberts (Harlequins).

What's happening with the roof?

England have requested the roof at the Principality Stadium be left open. Hosts Wales wanted to play with the Cardiff venue fully enclosed but it required agreement from the visitors.

England coach Eddie Jones kept Wales waiting until the 48-hour deadline to reveal his preference, but the Rugby Football Union has now confirmed he wants the pitch open to the elements.

Wales would have preferred the roof closed because it enhances noise levels and could therefore amplify what is already likely to be a loud and partisan Welsh crowd. Wales beat England under a closed roof in 2013 but were beaten when it was kept open two years ago.

Three key stats

  • England have won five of the last seven encounters between these teams in the Six Nations, including each of their last three, though their most recent two wins in that run came by five points or fewer.

  • Wales have snatched victory in four of their last six home games against England in the competition, with all but one of those six matches being decided by a points margin of fewer than 10 points.

  • Victory for England would make it their ninth Six Nations win in a row, equaling their longest ever streak since Italy joined the competition (nine wins, 2002-2004).

What are they saying?

Eddie Jones

"We got a few things wrong (against France). It's been a great week of focused preparation and we can't wait to play Wales.

"Playing Wales in Cardiff is one of the biggest games in world rugby and we're excited. These are the games you want to be part of as a player and a coach.

"It's a game that is going to be decided on the basics of the game. You do the fundamentals of the game well and you win the game of rugby. We have a young team eager to play well at the great Principality Stadium.

"We don't need extra motivation this week - we play Test rugby because we want to be the best for England. Every game for us is important and our supporters, and Wales is our next game so it's the most important."

Rob Howley

"There is huge excitement in the camp ahead of Saturday for what is set to be a massive Six Nations encounter. We were really pleased with the result out in Rome, and are looking to build on that performance this weekend.

"Both Rob (Evans) and Tomas (Francis) made a big impact off the bench last weekend and deserve their opportunity to start. We have had a short turnaround, but Dan and George have worked hard with the medics and we are pleased to be able to name them."

What are the betting odds?

Wales 7/4

England 4/7

Draw 20/1

What is our prediction?

This game is going to be tight, very tight. Wales have home advantage, although Eddie Jones has tried to limit that by insisting on having the Principality Stadium roof open. Even so, the Welsh fans will act as a 16th man for Rob Howley's men and, for this reason, it will probably be a home win.
