Walmart has been slammed online for a display marketing guns as back-to-school items.

An image of a tall, glass gun case filled with rifles and topped with a sign saying “Own the school year like a hero” has gone viral on social media, with people lashing out at the retailer.

According to Everytown research, there have been 233 shootings at U.S. schools since 2013 — that’s about one a week.

Walmart has since apologized for the display, saying on Twitter that “it was truly awful. We immediately removed the sign from the display as soon as we found out the store location.”

The company also added that it’s investigating how it could have happened in the first place. In the meantime, folks have plenty to say about it.
