Wake-Up Weather: cap to hold off isolated dry thunderstorms?

Tuesday, May 14th, 2024

Summary: Much like yesterday, a seasonal start to the day with forecast highs above average. However, the SPC watch areas in the big country (western/central) for a chance at thunderstorm development. A cap is currently in place and is expected to persist over the region curbing storm chances. If storms do manage to break the cap thunderstorms will likely by high based indicating a chance for low precipitation storms with a higher wind threat if rain dissipates before reaching the surface (dry microburst). Wednesday our biggest threat will be strong winds with a chance to borderline severe storms towards the northeast. Thursday is our more credible threat with a chance for isolated to scattered storms. Right now we continue to watch for a chance of large hail, gusty winds and isolated tornadoes. Following the cold front and storms Thursday we see temperatures warm up into the upper 90’s feeling summer-like by this weekend. A few areas could even be looking at the first triple digit day of the year.

Today: Sunny and warm with winds shifting back out of the south with a dry-line out west trying to initiate storms, although, chances are slim to see much of anything today. High Temperature: 89° Winds: S 5-10 MPH

Tonight: Clear, warm and breezy night ahead. Low Temperature: 68° Winds: SSE 10-15 G 20 MPH
