The family of a Yonkers Montessori Academy student are demanding accountability in the wake of an alleged attack on their 13 year-old daughter that took place on school grounds.

According to reporting from the New York Post, the 13 year-old was allegedly “mobbed” by a group of parents who were encouraging another student to beat her up. The incident was allegedly caught on three separate cameras.

According to the New York Post, the teen was “swarmed”by four parents, a grandparent, and other students at the school’s baseball field around seven in the morning. The family’s attorney told the New York Post that it seemed as if they group was looking for the 13 year-old’s friend, and after learning she wasn’t there, decided to attack her instead.

The New York Post spoke to the distressed teen about the alleged attack. “I felt confused and scared — they kept yelling in my face,” she told the New York Post. “When I got attacked, I was feeling alone and scared because nobody was there to help me.”

The 13 year-old’s mother, Alenna Merritt told the New York Post that she was pulling her daughter out of the Yorkers Montessori Academy and alerted the city of Yonkers of her intent to sue for $40 million for negligent supervision. Merritt alleges that her daughter “was left unsupervised” and was “violently assaulted on the premises of Yonkers Montessori Academy by students and parents and relatives of current students, during school hours,” according to the claim notice obtained by the New York Post.

The 13 year-old was not named by the family or the New York Post to protect her identity and privacy.
