Waffle House late shift change brings reaction

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF) – The Georgia Avenue Waffle House has a lot of fans.

“I frequently visit Waffle House. I’m a veteran at eating at Waffle House,” said Ronald Williams.

Waffle House is known for it’s 24 hours of good eats and coming in any time.

But at the Georgia Avenue store, they are going to close the dining room doors at 9 P.M., and overnight is take out only.

“That is something that is going to take some getting used to especially for people who frequent Waffle House,” said Roger Bazemore

The new Waffle House customer service hours eliminates a rite of passage for some, sitting in Waffle House during the wee small hours of the morning.

“Closing up at night for security,” said Mark Calliham.

“You understand.”

“Right,” Calliham said.

”Have you ever been in Waffle House at 2 A.M.?”

“It’s been a very long time,” Calliham said.

”I feel like I’m probably past that point in my life. I think I’d be a little sad if I were younger,” said Nike Meyer.

“Loses some of it’s appeal, you know. Let’s go; it’s always open, so you go in,” said Steven Demers.

With take-out only, you can still enjoy the menu, but without the late-night atmosphere.

“It definitely takes away the tradition of the restaurant yes,” Roger said.

“Have you ever been thrown out of a Waffle House?”

“No, but I’ve seen many video’s on the internet,” Roger said.

“Everything was fine. I’ve never had any problems at Waffle House,” said Mark.

“You’ve never been kicked out of a Waffle House?”

“No sir,” Mark stated.

“You’re a good citizen.”

“I try to be,” Mark replied.

But some are fine with no inside dining late at night.

“Things change once you get up there around 70,” said Ronald.

“Well, for you, I guess noon is the new two in the morning.”

“Exactly. You’re exactly right, Noon is the new two in the morning. Now, it’s time to get a nap in the recliner,” Ronald stated.

And take some take out with you.
