Vt. residential solar company calls for Legislature to continue funding, touts accomplishments
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- Vermont's largest residential solar power company and the governor are calling on the Legislature to continue to fund a program that gives customers rebates if they go solar.
The company SunCommon celebrated its first anniversary on Monday at an event in Montpelier.
In the last year, it has installed 248 residential solar systems in Vermont to customers who pay no up-front costs and instead pay monthly to lease or buy the system.
SunCommon's co-president Duane Peterson says the company wants to double its installations this year, putting in over 500 systems on Vermont homes and businesses.
But he says there is $1.9 million allocated for the clean energy development fund, which could run out in early summer, driving up the cost of solar to Vermont's customers.
