VT police break record in annual hot dog fundraiser for Special Olympics

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — One event had a sizzling hot success on the Virginia Tech campus after police broke the record for raising money for the Special Olympics Virginia of Southwest Region.

Each year, Virginia Tech police heat the grill for the “Hot Dog Luncheon.” With meals including two fresh hot dogs, chips, dessert, and a drink, campus police raised money for the Special Olympics on May 15.

This year, police set a new record high and raised $6,800.

“The annual hot dog luncheon is always a great opportunity for us to see so many new and familiar faces. And even with the rain, our community did not disappoint! A huge thank you to our awesome volunteers and our generous sponsors. We are already looking forward to next year’s event,” said VT police in a post on social media.
