Vt., lover of winter snow, bemoans southern storms
BARRE, Vt. (AP) — Winter storms that have dumped a foot or more of snow on southern New England and the New York City area have barely covered the ground in Vermont — and people in the snow-loving state can't stand that.
The Barre (BAYR'-ee) Sno-Bees Snowmobile Club says people are selling their sleds because Vermont isn't getting the amount of snow they're used to.
The club says a heavy snowfall would be welcome in Vermont, which got no snow Tuesday while Philadelphia got 14 inches. Club trailmaster Tim Stone says the state is suffering from "snow jealousy."
The National Weather Service calls Vermont an "outlier" this season.
The Sno-Bees' 52 miles of trails are open, but the lack of snow cover has kept snowmobile enthusiasts away. Stone has a message for a Nordic god known for skiing: "Give us some snow, please."
