VSP offers ‘Ride 2 Save Lives’ motorcycle safety courses throughout Virginia

APPOMATTOX, Va. (WFXR)—Virginia State Police is offering its ‘Ride 2 Save Live’ motorcycle self-assessment courses across the Commonwealth in hopes of preventing motorcycle and vehicle crashes.

‘Ride 2 Save Lives’ courses are conducted by VSP Motors Troopers and allow current riders the opportunity to learn and practice rider safety, how to handle hazards, special situations, interstate highways, curve negotiation, and much more.

According to VSP, there have been five motorcyclists killed on Virginia roadways throughout the past week. VSP states this increase can be connected to warmer weather, which brings an increase of drivers and motorcyclists to the Commonwealth’s roadways.

There are currently two courses scheduled for this weekend. Although a course in Chesterfield has already closed registration, spots still remain available for a course taking place at the Salem Red Sox’s stadium.

All interested participants require a valid operator’s license, with a ‘M’ endorsement, appropriate riding attire, and a helmet and eye protection. All bikes must be street-legal to participate in this program.

Summer and late spring Motorcycle Riders’ Safety Courses are also open at Virginia Western Community College. The class offers new riders the opportunity to become certified for 2-wheel motorcycles and more experienced riders to learn new skills. One-on-one tutoring is also available.
