VSP finds body in passenger seat after vehicle fire in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police found a body in the passenger seat of a car that was on fire in Northampton County on Wednesday, police said.

Police were notified around 8:45 a.m. of a vehicle fire on the southbound shoulder in the 10100 block of Lankford Highway/Route 13, in the community of Birdsnest. The car was seen parked in that spot around 5 a.m., but it wasn’t until just before 9 a.m. that it was reported on fire.

After extinguishing the fire, a body was found in the passenger seat. The car was a light blue 2002 Honda Sport with Maryland plates.

The body has been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner for examination, autopsy and positive identification.
