VSCO Cam review

You can't replace your Android device's camera, but you can upgrade the software it uses by installing VSCO Cam's free app. A clean and stylish interface and menus give VSCO Cam the look of a photography exhibit but also enhance the app's functionality compared to our phone's native app as well as similar third-party tools. VSCO Cam boasts better image processing technology and more useful presets than many other apps, too. Extras include Journal and Library features. VSCO Cam is free for Android 2.2 and up.

Pros

Self-optimizing: VSCO Cam automatically optimized itself to our Android phone's camera. We could select multiple image sources. The cleaned-up camera interface made taking pictures easier, too.

Tools and effects: VSCO Tools are intended to refine, not define, your snapshots. We could apply Exposure, Temperature, Contrast, Vignette, and other filters and effects to images using Before and After views.

VSCO Grid: The VSCO Grid feature is a curated display of up-and-coming photographic talent from the VSCO Community.

VSCO Journal: Scrolling through the app's Journal feature keeps you up-to-date on Community happenings, exhibits, app updates, and more.

Cons

Slow import: Though we could add images to VSCO Cam's Library from any available source on our phone, adding them one by one is time-consuming. A Select All option is needed.

Bottom Line

With its sleek, pro-style interface and sophisticated image technology, VSCO Cam is a step up from our phone's built-in camera software. But even if you like your current cam app, VSCO Cam is worth a look.
