GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Donald Trump and Joe Biden won their respective primaries in Colorado on Super Tuesday, but before that, WesternSlopeNow caught up with voters on their way to the polls.

Super Tuesday 2024: Biden and Trump move closer to a November rematch

At the time this article was written, Mesa County Elections reported 49,164 people voted on Super Tuesday in Mesa County. That’s 45% of eligible voters.

WesternSlopeNow asked voters why they came out for the primary election:

To get the right people on the ballot for the general election.

J.D.

Because we need to have good candidates and this is how we get them. This is our democratic process.

Michaelle McGee

Well it’s important to vote for the person you want on the main ballot for November.

Candidate Fatigue

The most recent Quinnipiac polling from Feb. 21st shows the majority of voters have an unfavorable opinion of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The poll shows that 58% of voters have an unfavorable opinion of Donald Trump, and 56% have an unfavorable opinion of Joe Biden.

But the few in-person voters WesternSlopeNow spoke to didn’t feel the same way. In fact, one voter directed her vitriol towards the Colorado Supreme Court Justices. “I am very upset with those six people here in the state of Colorado that tried to take my voting privilege away from me,” said Michaelle McGee.

On Dec. 19th the Colorado Supreme Court ruled Trump could not be on the ballot citing a violation of the 14th Amendment due to his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. That ruling was overturned by the highest court in the land the day before Super Tuesday.

In a unanimous vote, the United States Supreme Court ruled only Congress can enforce the constitutional provision for federal candidates, like Trump.
