Voters confused in Mobile County following primary election

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The newly redrawn congressional maps split Mobile into two separate congressional districts.

However, with Super Tuesday being the first Alabama election since the maps were redrawn, voters were surprised when they went to the polls.

WKRG News 5 sat down with five voters who all live in District 1, but before Wednesday, they were all under the impression that they lived in District 2.

When they walked into the polls Tuesday and asked for a Democratic ballot, they were shocked.

“We didn’t feel like we had a voice,” Connie Stallworth said. “We didn’t have anybody that represented us.”

Stallworth said they were expecting to see the District 2 Congressional Candidates, but instead, the Democratic congressional candidate list for District 1 was empty.

Lekisha Young said she felt like there was a missing page on her ballot.

“I saw it was only three places to select, so I flipped it over and looked selected the three,” Young said.

All five voters told News 5 that they did not receive any notice informing them that they now reside in District 2 and wished they knew that before Super Tuesday.

“I’m upset about the way the lines were drawn,” Medinia Treier said.
