Voter turnout in Arkansas Super Tuesday primary drops compared to 2020

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Voter turnout for Tuesday’s Arkansas primary elections was down in every county in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley compared to 2020.

20.6% of registered voters actually voted in the primary race statewide, down eight percent from four years ago.

Jennifer Price, director of elections for Washington County, said she believes the election itself had a lot to do with the low voter turnout.

“When we got to our primary the super Tuesday it had very much narrowed down the field on the Republicans’ side on who the candidate was going to be so that definitely contributed to some of the lower numbers we saw,” Price said.

Price says voter turnout is normally higher during the general election.
