Congratulations to the winner of the high school Student of the Week in The Patriot Ledger

The Patriot Ledger is pleased to announce the winner of our Student of the Week. Nominations come from high school staff members. But you, our readers, make the decision in our poll found at the bottom of this story. Look for our next poll Monday morning. We're proud to highlight the achievements of high school students. This feature is similar to our Athlete of the Week.

The winner this week is Jacob Smith, of Hull High School, is enrolled in all Honors and Advanced Placement courses and has even taken two Dual Enrollment courses at Bunker Hill Community College. Jake has earned Student of the Month in every subject, won multiple Student Mastery awards at the end of the year and has been inducted into the HHS National Honor Society. Jacob is the captain of the varsity basketball team, a founding member and vice president of the Chess Club, an officer of the Physics Club and a class representative in Student Government.”

One of our other nominees this week was Kaylan Moura, 16, of Kingston, a sophomore at Silver Lake Regional High School, consistently contributes to the educational environment of the school with his pleasant and humorous attitude. Not only is he doubling up in mathematics this year in order to increase his STEM options, he is also excelling in honors physics. What makes Kaylan unique is that he is an English language learner student from Brazil, and he is making these accomplishments in his second language.

Our third nominee this week was Brooke McCarthy, 17, is a senior at Scituate High School, and is senior class president. She has been the class president for all four years of high school. Brooke is captain of cross country, indoor track and spring track. She is a girls soccer All-Scholastic Patriot Ledger honorable mention. Brooke is simply remarkable.
