Here is the winner of the high school Student of the Week in The Patriot Ledger

The Patriot Ledger is pleased to announce the winner of our Student of the Week. Nominations come from high school staff members. But you, our readers, make the decision in our poll found at the bottom of this story. Look for our newest poll each Monday morning. We're proud to highlight the achievements of high school students. This feature is similar to our Athlete of the Week.

This week's winner is Grace Naylor, 16, a junior at Hull High School, has a 4.46 GPA ranks third in her class. She has earned all A’s in a mix of Honors and Advanced Placement courses since her freshman year. Her favorite subject is math and opted to test out of Algebra II to take pre-calculus in 10th grade. She is enrolled in both AP Calculus and AP Statistics, and plans to take AP BC Calculus virtually next year. Grace is also enrolled in AP Language and Composition and AP United States History, and took AP Biology last year. Grace is an inaugural member of the “Wood Engineering Boat Building” course, where students create project plans, manufacture boat parts and assemble a boat using the manufactured parts. Grace plans to major in naval architecture and marine engineering in college. Her long-term goal is to become a United States Coast Guard naval engineer and hopes to spend the rest of her life on the water while helping to keep her community safe.

One of our other nominees was Kalina Le, 18, a senior at Weymouth High School, works as a Radiation Oncology Research Student at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, showcasing her passion for healthcare and giving back. Kalina's efforts in community service are further exemplified by her involvement at Holly Hills as a student farmer, a Tufts Library teen shelver, and a Weymouth Market volunteer. In addition to her service, Kalina has excelled academically, earning her place in the National Honor Society, WHS Scholar Wall and WHS Leadership Wall. She has also been recognized with the Rensselear Institute of Technology Women in STEM Award and the AP US History Underclassman Award. Kalina's leadership shines through her participation in Model UN as president, head delegate and captain, where she has managed the responsibilities of her team, advocated for important issues and won multiple awards. Additionally, as the chair of the Human Rights Coalition, she has organized large-scale events and raised funds for various causes.

Our third nominee was Tyler Shamitz,17, a junior from Scituate at South Shore Vocational Technical High School, is in the Manufacturing Engineering Tech program and is one of the most creative engineering programmers in the school. He will represent South Shore Voke in the state SKILLSUSA competition this spring and is constantly in shop and working out the schematics for various parts and projects that he puts through the various 3D printers. His creativity blurs the line between reality and fantasy, and he tests the limits of what the school's equipment can do on a regular basis.
