Voting for The State Journal-Register Student of the Week is now open after principals and administrators from local and area schools put forth another four nominations.

The students were nominated based on academic achievement, leadership, citizenship, character, public service and participation in clubs and activities.

We will publish a list of Student of the Week nominees every Monday morning at sj-r.com and in print on Tuesday. Voting closes at noon on Thursday.

The Student of the Week is announced online Friday and in print Sunday.

Here are the March 11-15 nominees.

Will Kindred
Will Kindred

Will Kindred, Waverly

Kindred is a Waverly senior who is at the top of his class, said his nominator, school counselor Kara Strode.

Kindred has been active in football all four years of high school (co-op with New Berlin) and has also participated in basketball.

He is an active member of National Honor Society and has enlisted in the Air National Guard with plans on attending college.

James Johnson
James Johnson

James Johnson, South Co.

Johnson, a South County sophomore, is a very motivated student, according to his nominator, Ciara Willhite, a science teacher at South County.

Johnson "constantly motivates his peers to do their work," Willhite said. He is a leader in the classroom who "strives to do his best every day by giving 110%," she added.

"James is an all-around amazing student and I enjoy having him in class," Willhite said.

Jayden Fink
Jayden Fink

Jayden Fink, Brown Co.

Fink is a senior at Brown County.

In addition to being a cheerleader and playing volleyball, Fink is a member of the trap team, FFA, student council, National Honor Society and the Brown Schuyler CEO Program.

Outside of school, Fink is very active in her church and also works with youth development programs at the Mt. Sterling YMCA Community Center.

Fink was nominated by teachers at Brown County.

Jayla Davis
Jayla Davis

Jayla Davis, Southeast

A senior at Southeast High School, Davis has been a member of the volleyball team, marching band, the Principal’s Roundtable and the Health and Science Academy.

According to her nominator, Southeast assistant principal Erika Metz, Davis is active in her church, often sharing her voice to her church choir, as well as to the community choir.

Davis has served as a tutor for young people in the community with the Matthew Project. Davis also lends her time to helping at Springfield Memorial Hospital and Contact Ministries.
