Manatee County’s football players are already putting together memorable performances as the 2023-24 high school season heats up.
This week, we resume a weekly feature in which we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Manatee County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.

Here are the candidates from last week’s games:
▪ Bon Bean Jr., Manatee: The senior wide receiver had six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, and added 27 rushing yards on two carries in the Hurricanes’ 21-14 loss to Sarasota Riverview.
▪ Marcus Galloway, Braden River: The junior ran for 108 yards on 21 carries in the Pirates’ 21-10 victory over Punta Gorda Charlotte.
▪ Jermaine Edwards, Parrish Community: The junior tallied 161 rushing yards on 22 attempts with a touchdown in a 41-34 loss to Wesley Chapel Cypress Creek.
▪Ashton Springfield, Parrish Community: He had 11 tackles, 5.5 TFL, two sacks, two quarterback hurries and caused a fumble in the Bulls’ 41-34 loss to Wesley Chapel Cypress Creek.
▪ Colton Dempsey, Bradenton Christian: Dempsey carried the ball 20 times for 120 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ 35-7 victory over Out-of-Door Academy.
