Massey Hill's Emily Rose LaClair is The Fayetteville Observer's Student of the Week

Our readers have cast their ballots, and we have a winner for The Fayetteville Observer's Student of the Week for May 13-17.

Congratulations to Emily Rose LaClair, a Massey Hill Classical High School sophomore who took the top spot with 63% of the vote.

According to her nomination, "she participates in various clubs, including Student Government, Key Club, Student Group, and Quiz Bowl. She has also co-founded the Medicine 4 Youth and Green Team club at Massey Hill Classical School. Emily is a very caring and dedicated young lady she has the motivation to be a great leader. She gets along well with her peers and she is always so cheerful and happy in the school setting. Along with her various committees, she maintains an "A" average on her grades."

Each week during the school year, local high schools nominate students for their outstanding academic and school achievements and community service. Readers will be able to cast their votes for The Fayetteville Observer Student of the Week between 5 a.m. Monday and noon Thursday every week during the traditional school year.

While this will be the Observer's final Student of the Week for the 2023-24 school year, we'll be back in September.

Cameron Bebeau, senior, Cumberland Academy

It is with great pleasure that I nominate Cameron Bebeau as our Student of the Week. As a senior, Cameron embodies the epitome of dedication, intelligence, and kindness. His plans to attend Fayetteville State University speak volumes about his commitment to furthering his education and making a positive impact on his community.

Cameron's academic achievements are truly commendable; consistently on the honor roll, he exemplifies what it means to be a diligent and hardworking student. Not only is he a standout scholar, but he also holds the esteemed position of Senior Class President, showcasing his exceptional leadership skills and dedication to his peers.

His impressive track record includes serving as the President of the Student Government Association in his junior year, as well as holding key positions in Broadcasting, Senior Beta Club, and Student Government throughout his high school career. His leadership roles speak to his ability to inspire and enact change within his school community.

Beyond academics and leadership, Cameron's passion for journalism is evident through his publication in Sports Illustrated's coverage of NASCAR, demonstrating his prowess in writing and analytical thinking. Furthermore, his nominations as one of CAVS Operation Homefront Military Children of the Year and as a Morehead-Cain Scholar underscore his commitment to service and academic excellence.

With consistent recognition on the A Honor Roll for the past two semesters and an impressive academic record, including achieving no lower than a B in Math throughout high school, Cameron's dedication to his studies is truly remarkable.

Jason Kinsey, freshman, Terry Sanford High School

We hope to nominate Terry Sanford High School freshman, Jason Kinsey for Student of the Week, in honor of his exceptional commitment to volunteering with the Special Olympics of Cumberland County. Kinsey is a dedicated FTS JV baseball player and active member of HOSA- Future Health Professional. Kinsey demonstrates compassion and reliability while working with athletes, inspiring his peers and making a significant impact on the community. Kinsey's involvement in HOSA and dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment showcases his exceptional character, making him a deserving candidate for this recognition.
