Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer’s high school football defensive player of the week. Readers can vote as often as they want until Friday, around noon, when the poll will close.

This week’s nominees

Keyaan Abdul-Rahim, Providence Day: in a 42-0 win over Charlotte Latin, Abdul-Rahim had 13 tackles, three tackles for a loss, plus one sack and one QB hurry.

Devin Biggers, Ashbrook: in a 21-12 win over Hunter Huss, Biggers recorded nine tackles, including four tackles for a loss and he blocked a field goal attempt.

Elijah Boston, Bunker Hill: in a 37-14 win over Bandys, Boston had seven tackles, two tackles for a loss and an interception. On offense, he caught five passes for 100 yards and a score.

Mikey Cowling, Freedom: 14 tackles, 0.5 sacks in a 26-14 win over Alexander Central.

Hudson Shoudy, Covenant Day: in a 52-6 win over SouthLake Christian, Shoudy forced two fumbles, both of led to scores. He recovered three fumbles, had four tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and eight tackles. He also blocked a point-after touchdown.

Kamari Surratt, Burns: in Friday’s big win over Shelby, the junior star six tackles, one tackle for a loss, a sack and two pass break-ups.

Khiyale Washington, Mountain Island Charter: 16 tackles, two tackles for a loss and one sack in a 21-15 loss to Lake Norman Charter.

Luke Wilson, East Burke: had 15 tackles and one tackle for a loss in a 42-27 win over West Caldwell. Wilson broke the school-record for tackles in a single season with 115. He also broke the record for a career with 219.
