Here are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Noah Cochran, Lincoln Charter tennis: The Eagles’ junior was a perfect 4-0 as Lincoln Charter beat Community School of Davidson and East Lincoln.

Cochran won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and 8-0 with sophomore teammate Ben Kennedy, at No. 2 doubles in a 7-2 win at East Lincoln on Feb. 26.

Cochran also won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and 6-2 with Kennedy at No. 2 doubles in a 9-0 victory at Community School of Davidson on Feb. 29.

Jackson DiMenna, Providence tennis: The Panthers’ junior won all four matches as Providence beat both Ardrey Kell and Charlotte Catholic this week.

DiMenna won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and 8-2 with teammate Toby Stamps at No. 2 doubles in a 7-2 win over Ardrey Kell on Feb. 26.

DiMenna also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and 8-1 at No. 2 doubles with Stamps in a 9-0 sweep of Charlotte Catholic on Feb. 29.

Robert Jackson, Sun Valley baseball: The Spartans’ junior tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and three walks in a 12-0 win at Parkwood in the season opener Feb. 29.

Jackson was also 0 for 2 at the plate with an RBI in the same game.

Alex Jessey, Providence Day lacrosse: The Chargers’ star tied his own school record with nine goals to go with two assists in a 17-5 win over Marvin Ridge on March 1.

Jessey also scored seven goals and had one assist in a 14-1 win over Legion Collegiate in the season opener Feb. 28, when he also became Providence Day’s all-time leading scorer (199 career goals).

Jessey is a Dartmouth College commit.

Chase Kiker, Metrolina Christian baseball: The Warriors’ sophomore pitched six innings, allowing just two hits with 15 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Corvian Charter on Feb. 29.

Kiker also was 0 for 3 at the plate with an RBI in a 10-0 win over Grace Academy on Feb. 27.

Kiker was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs in a 10-0 victory over the Carolina Royals on Feb. 26.

Kiker is 2-0 on the mound with 28 strikeouts in 11 innings of work with one run allowed for Metrolina Christian (4-0 through Monday).

Julian Larysz, Central Academy golf: The Cougars’ senior shot a team-best 47 at Red Bridge Golf Club as Central Academy lost to West Stanly on Feb. 27.

Larysz also shot a 47 at Monroe Country Club in a match with Anson County, highlighted by a 30-yard chip-in from the rough for par on Feb. 29.

Larysz stepped into the No. 1 role this week after a teammate went down with an injury, coach Tyler Powell said.

Warren Stiglitz, East Lincoln golf: The Mustangs’ freshman paired with junior Jared Myers to shoot 7-under par to lead East Lincoln to a win at the inaugural Coach Seitz Memorial Cup at Verdict Ridge Country Club on Feb. 28.

Stiglitz birdied four of the last five holes.

Caden Tarr, Carmel Christian baseball: The Cougars’ sophomore shortstop went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run, four runs scored and two stolen bases in a 10-5 win over SouthLake Christian in the season opener Feb. 27.

Kyle Virsik, Hough golf: The Huskies’ junior shot a 1-under-par 35 to earn medalist honors in the season opener at Skybrook Golf Club this week.

Virsik’s play also helped the Hough golf team to an 11-shot win over Cox Mill the same day.

Justice Washington, Mountain Island Charter track: The Raptors’ junior went 21-7 to win the long jump, breaking an eight-year-old school record, at Cuthbertson High on Feb. 28.

Washington’s jump qualifies him for the 1A West Regional in just the first meet of the outdoor track season.

Max Wearing, Palisades baseball: The Pumas’ sophomore went 2 for 3 at the plate with two singles, one RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in a 7-5 loss to Mallard Creek on Feb. 26.

Wearing also went 2 for 3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs in a 7-5 loss to East Mecklenburg on Feb. 29.

David Wignot, Lake Norman Charter baseball: The Knights’ junior went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, triple and four RBIs in a 4-2 win at West Rowan on Feb. 26.

Wignot also went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI in Lake Norman Charter’s 15-5 loss at East Rowan on Feb. 29.
