Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar get carbon fiber aero package
Polestar as we know it is coming to an end. Volvo's performance division will soon be spun off into its own brand, and with that change comes electrification. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as cars like the Acura NSX and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid prove that electric motors can enhance, not detract from a car's performance. As things draw to a close with Polestar's current models, the Volvo S60 sedan and V60 wagon, the automaker has added a limited edition model with a new carbon fiber aero package.
Polestar says the package increases downforce by 30 percent over regular models. The parts were developed along with Cyan Racing, Polestar's racing partner and the team currently fighting for the title in the World Touring Car Championship with a WTCC-prepped S60. Lots of companies offer carbon fiber appearance packages, but the fact that these are race derived and functional set the Polestar twins apart.
The limited run of 1,500 models will include a carbon fiber front splitter, side skirts and rear spoiler. It doesn't sound like much, but it doesn't take much to drastically change a car's aero. Non-aero additions include gloss-black wheel accents, carbon fiber door mirror caps and a new exterior color. Each model will have the serial number on the door sill plate.
The rest remains the same S60 and V60 Polestar we know and love. That means a twincharged 2.0-liter inline four making 362 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. The S60 can hit 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds (4.5 for the V60) and has a top speed of 155 mph. Other Polestar upgrades include Öhlins shock absorbers and six-piston Brembo brakes.
