Volunteers sought to plant flags for Memorial Day

May 16—SUPERIOR — The Douglas County Veterans Service Office is seeking volunteers to plant flags for Memorial Day in Superior cemeteries. Teams of two to four people are recommended.

Every year, volunteers help place nearly 6,000 flags at seven cemeteries in Superior. Superior Middle School students help with three of the cemeteries and a group of retired post office workers also cover one cemetery. Help is needed Thursday, May 23 at Greenwood Cemetery, where roughly 3,000 flags are planted, and at St. Francis/Nemadji Cemetery Wednesday, May 22, where 1,000 flags are planted.

Flag planting at Greenwood Cemetery will begin at 9 a.m. May 23. Flag planting at St. Francis and Nemadji cemeteries will begin at 6 p.m. May 22.
