Volunteers needed for annual Day of Caring
Apr. 25—The United Way of Stephens County's annual Day of Caring is quickly approaching and volunteers are once again needed to help bring transformation to nonprofits across Duncan.
This year's Day of Caring, which will mark the 32nd year for the event, will take place on Friday, May 10. The Day of Caring event serves as an opportunity for volunteers to lend a helping hand by completing projects for nonprofit organizations in the community.
This year's Day of Caring chairman will be Whitney Peck, of Endurance Federal Credit Union.
The day of volunteerism will begin early and last through most of the afternoon. Volunteers will arrive at the gathering hall of First Christian Church, located at 912 W. Walnut Ave., Duncan, at 8:30 a.m. to receive their assignments and take the annual group photo.
After receiving assignments, volunteers will head out to several nonprofits where they will begin a variety of projects. Lunch will be provided at the worksites and projects will wrap up by 4 p.m. although some may only last half a day.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to help.
For anyone who can't make the Day of Caring event but still wants to lend a helping hand, the United Way's annual diaper drive will take donations of diapers and wipes for those who cannot purchase them as well as new or used children's books for the annual summer reading program that aims to keep children reading during summer months.
