Volunteer sign-ups open for Balloons over Vermilion

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Balloons over Vermilion is now accepting volunteer applications for its 2024 event.

The annual hot air balloon festival will be held July 12 and 13 this year at the Vermilion Regional Airport in Danville. Along with mass flyouts, nightly balloon glows and tethered balloon rides, there will be a kids zone, beer tent and vendors.

Paxton’s First Friday’s concert series fully announced

Event organizers are asking for volunteers to staff the event. People can sign up for positions such as gate attendants who collect tickets and stamp hands, traffic controllers who will direct cars in and out of parking lots, grounds crew to collect trash and photo machine operators.

There are a total of 92 volunteer positions, available in two-or three-hour shifts, for each day of the event. As of Thursday evening, 21 Friday positions and 16 Saturday positions are filled.
