Volkswagen's Golf Family Gets Refreshed

Volkswagen just upped the competition by adding new premium and advanced safety features to its extensive Golf lineup.

Styling, new technology, and advanced safety improvements will be featured in the 2018 models of the Golf, Alltrack, GTI, Golf R, and Golf Sportwagen. The e-Golf EV was already updated for 2017.

Beyond the announcement that the GTI can now be optioned with both a sunroof and Clark plaid cloth seats, pleasing U.S. car enthusiasts, the big news here is about advanced safety features. Forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking are now available on the SE and trims above. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available. We’d like to see AEB and FCW standard.

Bolstering those safety options are standard LED taillights, daytime running lights, and rain-sensing headlights.

For creature comforts, a 6.5-inch touchscreen is now standard, with some models having an available 8-inch screen.

Wheel designs and body colors are also refreshed. Interior updates include new trim panels and materials.

Reliability has been below average for all of the Golf family. We hope that shortcoming has been improved as well.
