Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak Concept Revealed
Volkswagen revealed a new dual-cab, short bed pickup truck concept today based off its seven-seater Atlas SUV, called the Atlas Tanoak. Like the regular Atlas, the Tanoak uses VW's MQB platform, as well as the company's VR6 engine, producing 276 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque in this application. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission andVolkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
From the front, the Atlas Tanoak resembles VW's recently-revealed Atlas Cross-Sport concept, with LED headlights that span the entirety of the grille. The company says everything is new from the B-pillar back, sporting a bed that measures 67.1 inches long, 57.1 inches wide, with a total length of 214.1 inches (that's five inches longer than the shortest Ford F-150). The design scheme continues to the rear of the car, with full-length taillight bars. The 0-60 sprint happens in 8.5 seconds.
The Tanoak's interior looks fairly-production ready, with a custom digital display, dashboard, and shifter. The truck offers several driving modes for off- and on-road driving, optimizing drivetrain settings for the grip available.
Currently, Volkswagen has no plans to produce the Tanoak, hoping to gauge public reaction during its launch at the 2018 New York Auto Show. What do you think of the Tanoak?
