‘Voice of the Strawberry Festival’s’ memory kept alive at 2024 fest

PLANT CITY, Fla (WFLA) —Randy and Jill Scott’s decades of service at the Strawberry Festival is being remembered in multiple ways at the event.

Their daughter, Angel Carter says the festival grounds are a second home.

“It’s just the way we were brought up,” she said.

Volunteering at the event is a longtime tradition started by her parents.

“They’ve done everything from tickets to the entertainment then the showcase tent my dad even did a small stint at the main stage for a year only,” Angel said.

Eventually, Randy found a long-term gig and gained the title “Voice of the Strawberry Festival.” His rendition of the “National Anthem” greeted guests over the speakers each morning and his serenade of “Happy Trails” sent them home in the evenings.

“He loved being the ‘Voice of the Strawberry Festival.’ When they named him that, he glowed for days. He thought that was all there was,” remembers Angel.

The 2024 festival is the first in decades that won’t have Randy filling the role. He and Jill were killed in car crash in May.

Angel can’t imagine a festival without her parents.

“When we see people in public that say their deaths have effected them greatly it’s humbling to realize what an impact both of them had on the festival and on the community itself,” she says.

Randy’s voice will still grace the speakers at the grounds, his recording of the “National Anthem” will air everyday. It’s a chance for family and friends to remember the couple who left a lasting legacy at the festival.
