‘The Voice’s Adam Levine Joins Comedy Feature ‘The Clapper’

EXCLUSIVE: With his future in doubt as part of NBC’s The Voice after next season, Adam Levine has no doubt what his next gig will be: The Maroon 5 frontman will moonlight from his duties as judge on top-rated series to appear in comedy feature The Clapper. He will join other Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, Leah Remini, Russell Peters, P.J. Byrne and Mickey Gooch Jr. Brenda Vaccaro also just joined the cast.

The story is adapted by writer-director’s Dito Montiel from his own book about Eddie Krumble (Helms), a professional clapper for infomercials who gets plucked by a late-night TV host to be on his talk show. The notoriety that his 15 minutes of fame brings ends up costing Krumble his job as well as a budding relationship with a girl who works at a gas station.

Levine will play Ralph Ranter, the suave film producer who runs the late-night show hosted by Jayme Stillerman (Peters) that inadvertently is responsible for tearing apart Krumble’s life. Remini plays Krumble’s boss Louise, and Byrne plays Caldwell, showrunner for the Stillerman show. Vaccaro plays Krumble’s mother and superfan who has a Norma Desmond complex.

Gooch, Jr. is said to be playing an integral part in the entire production, portraying the rival clapper named Yugoslavia who is envious of Krumble and unwittingly shores up his rival’s growing fame.

The film is being produced by Helms and Mike Falbo through their Pacific Electric shingle as well as Robin Schorr through Schorr Pictures. The film is executive produced and financed by Alex Lebovici, Steve Ponce and Michael Bien of Oriah Entertainment, along with Ray Bouderau and John Bennett of Living the Dream Films and Executive Producers Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Patrick DePeters and Trey Ott with BondIt and Finch Finance Corp (the latter two of which closed the production financing).

Fortitude has been handling foreign sales for the property.

“We are super thrilled how the cast came together,” said Lebovici. “We didn’t go after typical choices and we thought about this carefully and wanted to cull together a cast who was a little different and would be fun watch onscreen. We couldn’t be happier with what we are seeing so far.”

Levine has had feature roles before, most recently in Begin Again and Pitch Perfect 2. He also was a guest star on three episodes of FX’s popular series American Horror Story.

Levine, who also enjoyed a guest star role with Morgan on 30 Rock and whose songs have graced a plethora of TV shows, is repped by WME’s Warren Zavala, Career Artist Management and Jackoway Tyerman. Vaccaro is repped by Stewart Talent. Gooch, Jr. is repped by Dave Fleming at Atlas Artists and Usman Shaikh at US Law Group. Remini is repped by APA and Carol Bodie at Art2perform.
