Visit Chaupain, Off Road Coffee Stop, Ukrainian Sweeties at High Desert Farmers Market

The High Desert Farmers Market’s food vendors offer tasty items to enjoy while shopping or to take home to enjoy later.

Read about three such vendors.

Chaupain

For two years Mohamed Ghaz and Azer Ana have come to Victorville and set up the Chaupain side-by-side canopy, the display pairs healthy milk products (flavorful French kefir drinks, yogurts and cheeses) with decadent, delicious and freshly baked pastries and breads.

Kefir is a delicious sour drink originating from Russia and Asia.

French artisan bakery Chaupain has bakeries in Laguna Hills and San Clemente and sends vendors to many farmers' markets throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Temecula, and other Inland Empire locations.

Chaupain’s yogurt and cheese products are high in protein and probiotics but have reduced lactose and low carbs. The banner’s proclamation, “The thing that’s loved by your gut,” underscores the benefits of a diet that includes probiotics and various micro-organisms that improve or restore microflora for digestion.

Flavors include fig, pineapple, mango, coconut, and chocolate, which are tasty ways to stay healthy.

Plan to read the Chaupain breadboard that lists tempting croissant varieties, bread, twists, cruffins, muffins, tarts, Danishes, and quiches made fresh and beautifully displayed. Contact their website, www.chaupainbakery.com, or @chaupainbakery on Instagram for large orders.

Off Road Coffee Stop

Truly resolute coffee lovers know about the cold brew process, where coarsely ground coffee is “brewed” in cool water for 12 to 48 hours to create a strong concentrate that is diluted to taste when the coffee is prepared for serving.

The concentrate, heated or served over ice, can be consumed as is or paired with one or more syrups for flavor, then topped with foam or creams as desired.

Off Road Coffee Stop, a new vendor is the brainchild of Jesse Monzillo, a retired firefighter who enjoys cold brew coffee and off-roading with his own 2012 Jeep Wrangler. He and his wife, Lisa, decided to offer their favorite coffee to those who enjoyed their favorite hobby, and Off Road was born.

He joined the farmers market this month.

Coffee specialties include flavor profiles for delicious seasonal drinks ─ hot and cold lattes with names like Smores or Almond Roca Lattes and Almond Joy Cold Brew. Signature drinks include Aeropress and Areospresso and a selection of Not Coffee drinks like Spiced Chai and iced or hot chocolate and Italian sodas.

Monzillo starts Off Road order with Black Rifle Coffee because he likes the flavor and stands behind the company and its philosophy. You can purchase 12-ounce packages of beans at his booth.

Contact Monzillo to discuss your next private event and to arrange pricing via Instagram @theoffroadcoffeestop or text/voicemail at 760-508-7399.

Ukrainian Sweeties

A snowboard instructor at Snow Valley Mountain Resort in Running Springs, Yuriy Manuylov wanted to add a delightful change to his career and convinced his wife Dasha that her skills in the kitchen baking Ukrainian desserts and sweet treats would be a wonderful way to introduce these special creations to Americans. The goodies are as beautiful to look at as they are delicious.

Newcomers to the country, the Manuylovs spent two months in Los Angeles and then moved to the mountains, where he started giving snowboarding lessons.

The Big Bear Farmers Market, sister to the High Desert location, welcomed Ukraine Sweeties; when Big Berar opened in April, several months ago, they came to the HDFM, and business is growing.

Carrot, chocolate, and lemon cakes are available; the most popular is honey cake, an eight-layer delicious beauty. The flyer suggests you consider a special order for your next event to “make your celebration sweet with our cakes.”

A made-to-order honey cake would be the star of your table. Delivery is available from Big Bear to Crestline, with free delivery for two or more cakes. If you wish to purchase a honey cake for delivery to the HDFM, call by Tuesday, and your cake will be ready to pick up at Thursday’s Market.

Other goodies include Crimean Baklava with pistachios, "knots with nuts,” almost too beautiful to eat, and crepes with fruit and Angel Wings fried cookie ─ a holiday tradition.

Dasha also makes homemade fruit preserves like plums, pears, apples, grapes, peaches, strawberries, and more.
