Visionary netizen remixes 2 random Filipino obsessions: K-pop and Jose Mari Chan

Philippine social media has the most random trends and obsessions, top on this list is K-pop while another that’s been going viral this season is local singer Jose Mari Chan’s song Christmas in Our Hearts. They are two very unrelated topics that netizen Honey Lyn Gico somehow thought needed a mashup.

Presenting your daily dose of content you didn’t know you needed: a remix of the EXO song Ko Ko Bop and Chan’s iconic Christmas in Our Hearts.

Gico posted the full version of the song earlier today after sharing a teaser on her Twitter account on Wednesday.

For those not in the know, EXO is one of the most popular South Korean boy bands right now. It’s especially popular in the Philippines where it regularly tops the country’s Twitter trends.

Christmas in Our Hearts, on the other hand, is a holiday song that is nearly impossible to avoid during the Christmas season. It’s such a holiday mainstay that Chan even trended on social media on the first day of this month, the unofficial start of the Christmas in the Philippines.

Gico’s mashup proved to be a hit too. As of this article’s posting, her first tweet had more than 4,000 likes, more than 2,000 retweets, and more than 100 replies.

In a Twitter message to Coconuts Manila, Gico said that it took her 2 hours to create the remix. She made it because it’s been a while since EXO released new music.

“It’s been over a year since EXO made a comeback and we’ve been missing them badly so I thought why not mashup Ko Ko Bop with Jose Mari Chan’s Christmas in Our Hearts together since its already ‘BER months’ and these songs are really popular,” she said.

“I wanted to lighten up the mood on Twitter while we’re waiting for (entertainment company) SM to drop the comeback teasers too!”

And the Twittersphere is thankful for her ingenuity.

“COLLAB OF THE CENTURY YOUNG WHO WE YOUNG WHO JOSE MARI CHAN SARANGHAE,” an excited Twitter user with the handle @zhangrheane said in all caps.

“[I]t’s funny and it is actually good btw,” @liffrms wrote.

@SooBaekHunEXO called it the “Best mashup ever.”

For reference, here’s what the two songs sound when not remixed together.
