Virtual town hall focuses on youth mental health

(COLORADO) — Mental health struggles in Colorado’s youth have nearly doubled since 2018, according to Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHC). In 2018 the rate of poor mental health among pre-teens and teens was around 8.8% and rose to 18.5% in 2021.

In 2023, CHC saw around 10,000 unique mental health patients in the 11 to 18 age group. This number ranges from emergency departments to inpatient units in the CHC’s care system. The CHC launched a mental health state of emergency in 2021.

Since then, CHC has been holding mental health town halls designed to empower families to have candid conversations about mental health, suicide, anxiety, stress management, and more. Caregivers, teachers, and kids can get answers and address concerns in a safe, positive environment.

The next Virtual Mental Health Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. The town hall is held online, and families can register here.

Three experts will be speaking at the town hall about mental health topics.
