Virtual public meeting focuses on Highway 285 South of I-20

Oct. 10—PECOS/FORT STOCKTON The Odessa District of Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled a virtual public meeting regarding proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 285 in Reeves and Pecos counties, a press release detailed.

The virtual public meeting is scheduled to begin at noon Wednesday. Following the virtual public meeting, the presentation will remain available for viewing through Oct. 28.

The proposed project covers 49.3 miles and goes from Interstate 20 in Pecos to Interstate 10 in Fort Stockton. While nothing is planned within cities, the proposal consists of the following:

>> Widen the rural sections of U.S. Highway 285 and make it a four-lane divided highway with two lanes in each direction as well as both inside and outside shoulders.

>> Include a wide center median and/or barrier.

>> Build median openings and possibly turn lanes at key intersections throughout the project area.

Additional right of way would be required. The project may involve construction in wetlands or floodplains. While no residential structures are anticipated to be displaced, the proposed project would potentially displace two non-residential structures.

The meeting will consist of a virtual room and will include both audio and visual components. The virtual public meeting webpage will feature maps and exhibits for the public to review and comment on.
