Virginia State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Roanoke

UPDATE: 12:26 A.M. — Roanoke police held a press conference at 11:30 p.m. on April 22 sharing more information about the shooting earlier in the evening.

Police Chief Scott Booth confirmed that the man shot by a Roanoke police officer is in stable condition. He was allegedly armed with a knife and threatening people inside a residence when police were called.

According to Chief Booth, when officers arrived at the scene, the man refused repeated orders to drop the knife and advanced on the two officers. Police both tasered and shot the man; both officers are on administrative leave while State Police investigate the incident.

Neither the officers nor anyone inside the residence was injured.

State police have confirmed the man is in stable condition.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police officials in Roanoke say a man was taken to the hospital after he was shot by an officer during an “altercation” Monday night.

According to police, just after 8 p.m. on April 22, officers responded to the 600 block of Moorman Avenue NW for a “disorder” call. There, they found an armed subject.

Officials say at some point, Roanoke officers and the subject got into an “altercation.” That’s when an officer fired their service weapon, hitting the subject. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Moorman Avenue NW and Gilmer Avenue NW are blocked from 6th Street to 7th Street as the shooting is investigated. We’re expecting an update from the police sometime on Tuesday.
