Virginia State Police arrests man accused of crime against child in Leesburg

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) officials arrested and charged a man who was accused of taking “indecent liberties” with a child while working as a school employee.

VSP said that it first started the investigation in July 2023 after an accusation was made against 32-year-old Joel A. Shapiro. The accusation pointed to an incident in 2017, while he was working for Clarke County Public Schools.

VSP said that the incident happened in Leesburg.

Five vehicles involved in Fairfax County crash

Officers took him into custody Thursday without incident and charged him with one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a custodian.

He was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on bond.
