Virginia Poll Shows Obama Barely Ahead
On the eve of Election Day. President Obama is holding on to a small lead over Mitt Romney in Virginia, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll. The result is in line with other recent polls of the state.
The poll showed Obama leading Romney 48 percent to 47 percent among likely voters with 3 percent undecided. The poll was conducted Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points, meaning that the president's lead is statistically not significant.
The poll showed that 3 percent of the state's voters remain undecided, with 1 percent supporting a candidate other than Obama or Romney.
Former Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode also is on the ballot in the state on the Constitution Party ticket, leading some observers to wonder if he could siphon off votes from Romney. Goode, a Democrat-turned-independent-turned-Republican, lost his seat in southwest Virginia in 2008.
