Virginia man creates app to help community find Latino businesses

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — In 2020, Aaron Rodriguez graduated from Temple University, moved to the DMV and started working as a fuel engineer.

As soon as he started making money, he realized that he wanted to give back to the community.

“I always think that that’s the baseline. That’s the bare minimum we can do for our communities,” said Aaron Rodriguez, the creator of Sol-Latino app.

Aaron says he started going to Latino-owned businesses for everything, from grocery stores, to mechanics to clothing stores.

“I just went out of my way to really look for these businesses and keep supporting them and empowering them,” said Rodriguez.

Aaron then thought it would be a good idea to compile all these businesses into one place.

So, he decided to create Sol-Latino app.

“It’s just really trying to help people find their local-owned businesses, keep empowering them, keep supporting them, keep elevating them to another level,” said Rodriguez.

The app is free to download on all smart phones. There are over 300+ businesses on the app.

It also features events happening in the community.

“It’s just something I wanted to do for the community and create that tool and kind of create that mindset that we can create our own change in our own neighborhoods in our own community by supporting our local owned businesses,” said Rodriguez.
