In a terrifying video that shook the internet, a New York man is seen dragging an elderly woman by her neck with a belt in between two cars where police say he raped her. Finally, the suspect is in custody and you’d never guess who turned him in.

Beverly Parks told The New York Post that her son, Kashaan Parks, called his wife and told her he choked and raped a woman. Police believed he was referring to a horrifying clip showing the 39-year-old man walking up behind the woman who was strolling down a Bronx street around 3 a.m. on May 1.

“I’m his mother that turned him in. I’m the one that facilitated him being arrested,” Parks, 56, told The Post.

With his face masked, Kashaan appears to sling a belt around the woman’s neck and choke her unconscious while dragging her in between two cars where he allegedly rapes her. His mother told The Post after learning what he’d done, she stayed up all night convincing him to surrender to authorities for what the public sees as a merciless act against humanity.

Authorities said Kashaan knew the victim and that she identified him by a gap in his teeth, according to Pix 11.

“He did something wrong and he has to deal with it. Period,” she told reporters. However, she also said her son was in a state of trauma around the time of the incident.

The unemployed, married father of two has been struggling with drinking and drug issues in recent weeks, since learning his father died last month in a hospital in Belize, according to his mom.

“He … had a one-year-old baby. It’s not like he was walking the street committing crimes and doing this,” she said. “I had my son go be accountable for his actions, no matter that he was drunk, that he was on drugs, that he was grieving,” she added.

Kashaan, his wife and their young daughter had been living in North Carolina, where they staying with the wife’s parents, but recently moved back, Beverly Parks said.

“I said [to Kashaan], ‘I wish I had left you down there and never made that trip,” she recalled. “He just came back from New York. That’s why this was such a shock.”

Parks eventually gave up hiding. He was escorted out of his home by two NYPD detectives Saturday afternoon. He is charged with rape, strangulation, assault, sexual abuse, public lewdness and harassment.

Authorities say the victim is recovering.
