Viola Davis Uncomfortable With ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ Sex Scenes

Emmy Award winner Viola Davis may seem extremely confident onstage and onscreen, having graced her audience with movies such as The Help, Doubt, and now Fences, but she revealed on Inside the Actors Studio just how awkward sex scenes were for her on the television series How to Get Away With Murder.

On HTGAWM, Davis played Annalise Keating, a role that “put her career over the edge,” she said. It was the first sexualized role of her career, and she went on to describe her discomfort with the sex scenes, saying, “When’s the last time anyone had sex in front of a crew?” Davis talked about how much confidence she gained by getting to be on television but then how difficult it was to not be vain and think about “the sweat dripping down or whether you’re too greasy looking” during the more intimate scenes. One way Davis helped resolve the difficulty was by covering herself with makeup from “the head down.”

Inside the Actors Studio airs on Bravo.
