The Mercedes-Benz SL may no longer hold the preeminent position in the brand's lineup, but vintage SLs continue to have a hold on collectors. For nearly two decades, from 1972 through 1989, the R107-generation model was the apex of the Mercedes-Benz range, as well as an avatar of success and good taste. This 1973 450SL, for sale on eBay Motors, caught our eye for several reasons, not least of which is its perfectly period green-on-green livery.

In a sea of silver, black, and red SLs, this Silver Green metallic example stands out. It doubles down with a green leather interior, which appears to be in original and fairly well-preserved condition. And, of course, this era of Benz comes with color-matched wheel covers, adding another splash of green. Another bonus is that '73-model-year SLs still had the elegant small, chrome bumpers.

The selling dealer claims that this 450SL had just one owner up until the time it reached his dealership, and that it has covered a total of 98,584 miles. The 450SL has a 4.5-liter V-8 that is hitched to a three-speed automatic transmission, and this example comes with air conditioning, power windows, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette player.

The ask is $19,900, which represents a nearly 50 percent appreciation on the original MSRP of $13,750. We can't say whether its value will climb from here, but this Benz certainly is the color of money.
