Ville Platte man arrested with the help of US Marshals, charged in connection with murder of teenager

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) — Federal officials assisted local law enforcement in arresting a suspect in connection with the murder of a teenager in Ville Platte last August, authorities said.

Dalonzo Alfred, 23, of Ville Platte, is charged with accessory after the fact to second degree murder in connection with the death of 18-year-old VonShonskee “Shonskee” Charles, and other probation violations.

Officials said Charles was killed in the 300 block of W. Beaureguard Street, and his body was found Aug. 29 on Colt Avenue, just outside of Ville Platte.

The United States Marshals Service contacted the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Tuesday in reference to apprehending a fugitive wanted by the Ville Platte Police Department.

After receiving this information, detectives and criminal patrol deputies assisted the Marshals Service in the apprehension of the suspect at a residence on the 1100 block of N. Chataignier Road, authorities said.

Alfred was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail without incident. His bond is set at $300,000.

Previously, three other suspects were arrested in connection with the death of Charles, including Jared Freeman, who was found in Los Angeles and extradited to Evangeline Parish.
