Ville Platte man arrested, charged with 7 counts of attempted murder, other charges
LECOMPTE, La. (KLFY) — A Ville Platte man is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, among many other charges, in connection with an incident involving a shooting in Rapides Parish and a multi-parish chase, authorities said.
Kearrious Marquez McCoy, 24 of Ville Platte, is charged with seven counts of attempted second degree murder, three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, two counts of attempted carjacking, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property and one count each of carjacking, aggravated cruelty to animals, resisting an officer, illegal carrying of a weapon, criminal trespassing and aggravated flight from an officer.
Rapides Parish Deputies responded May 11 to the 3000 block of La. 112 in Lecompte, to assist the Lecompte Police Department in what was first reported as a disturbance, authorities said. Deputies said they learned that a man, later identified as McCoy, had arrived at a local restaurant at La. 112 and I-49 in Lecompte in a vehicle that was reported stolen in Evangeline Parish.
According to witness reports, the man left the stolen vehicle and approached another vehicle in the parking lot of a local convenience store, brandishing a gun and demanding the driver exit the vehicle. According to the victim, McCoy then pointed the gun at the victim, but it failed to fire. The victim and the suspect then engaged in a physical altercation which resulted in the victim being shot in the arm.

Authorities said McCoy then confronted and shot at three other victims, including shooting and killing a dog that was in the original victim’s vehicle. One of the victims returned fire, when McCoy took that victim’s vehicle and fled down La. 112 toward Forest Hill.
A deputy located the vehicle southbound on US-165 and attempted a traffic stop. Officials said McCoy refused to stop so deputies initiated a pursuit.
Deputies, along with officers with the McNary and Glenmora police departments, continued pursuing McCoy into Allen Parish where the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with the Oakdale Police Department, Coushatta Police Department and the Kinder Police Department, assisted in the pursuit.

During the pursuit McCoy attempted to ram law enforcement vehicles, authorities said. McCoy’s vehicle was disabled by Kinder Police and McCoy fled the scene on foot and got away.
Allen Parish deputies located McCoy near some railroad tracks at about 9 a.m. Sunday, and after brief struggle, were able to detain him and recover a firearm from his person.
McCoy was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Allen Parish Detention Center on Allen Parish. McCoy remains in jail, being held on a detainer for RPSO. McCoy also has detainers from St. Landry and Evangeline parishes, officials said.
Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Detectives said this is still an active and ongoing investigation.
