VILLE PLATTE, La (KLFY)– In Ville Platte, police are investigating a shooting that happened Monday night resulting in a fire station being struck by bullets while firefighters were asleep inside. Authorities said this is not the first time the fire station has been shot at, in fact it’s happened multiple times.

This fire station was struck by bullets in a shooting Monday night. Police told News 10 this isn’t the first time it’s happened, except this time. Two firefighters were inside.

“There was a shooting that took place in the Gabriel Villa Apartment complex,” Sergeant Darrian Guillory with the Ville Platte Police Department said.

Officers with the Villa Platte Police Department responded to calls about a shooting Monday night; it happened on Lincoln Road just after 10 p.m. Guillory said when officers got to the scene, they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

“An individual was shot and there was returned fire,” Guillory said. “And throughout the return fire, the fire department was struck in the process.”

In addition to finding the victim, Guillory said multiple bullet holes were found at the fire station.

“There have been several occasions where there have been calls of shots fired from that particular apartment complex, but I was told on today from some of the staff members at the fire department that there have been occasions where the fire department has also sustained some damage from those shootings as well,” Guillory said.

At the time, there were two firefighters asleep when the shooting took place. No one inside the fire station was reported to have injuries. Police said this is concerning because stray bullets could harm innocent lives.

“There are just concerns in general for the amount of shooting that we do have within the city,” Guillory said.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
