The Vikings bolstered their defensive backfield Friday as they brought in veteran cornerback Tramaine Brock from Seattle. Minnesota sent the Seahawks a conditional seventh round pick in return.

After a handful of productive years with the 49ers, Brock signed with Seattle in mid-August. Brock was arrested in April on domestic violence charges but they dropped August 9. He may still face suspension for the arrest.

Seattle’s asking price for Brock is interesting given his experience. Outside of Richard Sherman, there are a lot of question marks at the cornerback position there. Meanwhile, the risk is low for Minnesota as they will only be on the hook for $900,000. Since this trade happened less than 24 hours prior to roster cuts, it is likely Brock will make the 53-man roster and at least play a role in nickel and dime packages early in the season.

The possible suspension could still throw a wrench into the Vikings’ plan for Brock. Corner is one of the more crowded positions on defense with Terence Newman and Xavier Rhodes as the starters and Trae Waynes likely returning to the nickel spot. However, it is possible Newman will see his starting spot go to Brock due to Newman’s age.

Brock was an effective pass defender the last two seasons in San Francisco, recording a combined four interceptions and 25 pass deflections.
