Vigo School Board to look at nearly $3.9M Chromebook purchase

Mar. 15—The Vigo County School Board will consider a nearly $3.9 million purchase of Chromebooks when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday in the administration office conference center, 501 Olive St.

The district will consider awarding a contract for Chromebooks to CDW-G for $3,893,552. In February, the district advertised a request for proposals and four companies responded.

The purchase is for 9,275 Chromebooks at a price of $419.79 each, which includes a recommendation to include premium repair coverage.

The Chromebooks will be purchased using ESSER III federal funds, general obligation bond funds, Chromebook repair/replacement funds and education fund dollars as needed.

In other new business, Donna Wilson, chief financial officer, will provide a 2023 financial summary and the board will hear a facility studies update from Gibraltar Design Inc.

Summer programs

Summer school programs for 2024 also are on the agenda. Among those being offered:

—Sarah Scott Middle School will conduct a summer program from Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, May 31.

—High school summer classes will focus on core courses that offered during the 2023-24 school year. Students have an opportunity to make-up compulsory credits. It will take place from 8:10 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. June 3 to June 28 at Terre Haute South Vigo.

—The Performing Arts Workshop will take place from June 3 to June 27 at Terre Haute South.

—A summer internship program for 35 students enrolled in the Education Professions Pathway will be offered from June 3 to June 14 at the VCSC Learning Lab.

—University Connections — A Summer Learning Experience — will be hosted at Indiana State University. This program was formerly Math Magic and Writing Wonders. It will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 through June 21 for grades 2 through 5.

—A 2024 Summer School program will be offered to incoming kindergarten through second grade students at each elementary school. The Jump Start will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 5-9.

Presentations, executive session

Presentations will involve the Terre Haute North Vigo Dance Marathon, which raised money for Riley Hospital for Children, as well as Terre Haute DECA recapping state competition and information about national competition.

The board also has an executive, or closed, session, for the purposes of:

—Discussion of strategy with respect to any of the following: Initiation of litigation or litigation that is either pending or has been threatened specifically in writing. As used in this clause, "litigation" includes any judicial action or administrative law proceeding.

—With respect to any individual over whom the governing body has jurisdiction.

—To train school board members with an outside consultant about the performance of the role of the members as public officials.
